Karen,
Thanks for posting this info...I feed Nina Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy, but I will likely start looking for a new food. I prefer the more natural alternatives, but don't feel like I know enough or have time to make her food myself. If any suggestions, please advise. Thanks, Sarah |

in another post here on the mesage board, there is info & a reference link on good dog foods.
We are trying to find a happy mix between what Da Boyz will eat, cost, availability & nutrition. We have tried a few different bags in the last few months. I will say, our sponsor, Pet Supplies Plus, carries almost every type you could ever be looking for at competitive (mostly lower) prices than I have seen elsewhere. We've fed Pro Plan for a couple years, after switching from Nutro in 2004. Recently tried Evo (expensive & dogs loved it) Canidae (Mikey eats, Onyx does not like. also small kibble) Chciken Soup for Dog.... (so-so both dogs, will eat if nothing else available, maybe a couple hours after put down). still trying to find what works best. KL |

I've been feeding Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Ultra Premium to both of my dogs since the pup turned six months old. (Breeder said to switch to adult food at 6 months). I can't say that they are very picky so don't take that into account, but also I can't say anything bad about it and it was the highest ranked food on the dog food scores. I don't think anything was subtracted and it received 22 extra points. The article does say its not an exact science but it sure made me feel good that other people agree it's a great dog food.

Sarah, If you are thinking of feeding raw, which is by far the healthiest method of feeding, here are some good links to check out: www.rawfeddogs.net www.rawlearning.com www.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding (Yahoo! group, obviously) www.rawmeatybones.com (Tom Lonsdale's website) http://www.dogaware.c... It's my understanding that it really isn't difficult to feed raw, and can be quite reasonably priced if you have the room to buy in bulk and freeze. I hope this helps! |

Also, if you are interested in raw, there is a company out now (in the metro area) that puts the raw meals in containers for you. All you have to do is serve it. I wish I had the name for you; however, I don't. I found them from a dog event last year. I didn't keep the name because I personally can barely handle raw for when I cook it for myself and my husband.

Thanks to all for your insight into Nutro alternatives...the Dog Food Project post was quite helpful in comparing the various commercial food options, and the raw diet resources I will continue to explore. Thanks again.
